CT cardiac calcium scoring uses The Imaging Center's high tech 64-slice multiscanner to see and quantify the amount of calcium in heart vessels. These vessels supply oxygen, containing blood to the heart wall. Plaque is a build-up of fat and other substances, which with time can narrow the arteries or even close off blood flow to your heart. This can result in a potential heart attack. This total score is a good indication of both the amount of hard, calcified plaque and also indirectly the amount of soft, non-calcified plaque.
